In this article, I will tell you how to create a new blog and what things we need to create a blog. To start the blog, you must have a Gmail account.  Before starting blogging, you can find a niche or topic. Depending on your comfort, choose a niche or topic that you can easily write or select the topic you are familiar with. You do not want to start blogging with multiple topics, choose a unique topic because the blog of the single topic ranks faster than the blog related to the multiple topics.

STEP 1: Decide what to start a blog about

If you are part of a business, company or organization, then your blog should be related to the product and service, which you provide or promote.

                                       If you are an individual, then you have the great freedom to choose the topic.

Blogs about what you do or about which topic you are interested in. You will stay on this for a long time, so make sure that there is a lot to talk about the topic you are choosing. If you are not excited about your subject, then writing articles about it will be very hard. If you do not write articles with passion then the readers will be interested.

There is a lot of material needed to keep a blog up and keep interesting. Choose an example in which you can establish yourself as an authority. You may not be the first person to blog about the topic you choose. It is almost guaranteed that someone else has thought about you before. Do not worry about this, come with a unique angle. Do you have a fair chance to improve your blog compared to other people talking about one thing?

STEP 2: Choose a blogger platform 

If you want to cook, then you need a kitchen. If you want to blog, you need a blogging platform.

There are many blogging platforms to choose from. Bloggers, WordPress, Squarespace, Vicks and Webly are some.

Everyone has professional and cons, but WordPress is by far the most popular (source), and for good reason. It is flexible, functional and has a large community of users who share equipment and ideas.

I use Blogger and recommend it (but not through blogger.com).

If you choose Bloggers, then you do not have to think about hosting, because Blogger hosts Google itself.

If you choose WordPress, you have two options, WordPress hosted and self-hosted.

Hosted WordPress blogs, sometimes called the WordPress.com blog, are free but limit your revenue potential.

Self-hosted WordPress blogs, sometimes called the WordPress.org blog, spend a little money but give you more control, and do not limit your income potential.

This guide will teach you about starting a self-hosted WordPress blog, which is equally preferred platform by beginners and experienced bloggers.

Note: Even though a self-hosted WordPress blog is sometimes known as "WordPress.org" blog, you are not limited to .org at the end of your name. You can still use .com like I do for technicalglance.com.

Okay, let's set up!

STEP 3: Find a trusted host

Hopefully, I have convinced you about the eligibility of WordPress, but there is one more thing to know. WordPress is just software. You can download it on your personal computer, but then your blog will be accessible to you only. In other words, WordPress itself will not live your blog on the Internet itself.

To get your blog online, and to be accessible to anyone, you need a server space. You get server location from a hosting company or "host".

Which host should you use?

I recommend a host which I have personally paid for and used for more than a years. (As a long-paying customer, the links below are my referral links. That means, there is no extra cost for you, if you make a purchase, I will earn a commission.)

Click here -> Go to Bluehost <- and start your blog. (The link will open in a new window so that you can work according to these instructions.) Click the green "Start Now" button:

Do not worry if the pictures you see here are different from some of the ones seen on your screen. The process is the same. Bluehost is always tweaking and improving the site. You can catch them in the sale too!

Select your plan

Click on one of the green "Selection" buttons to select the plan you want to start. I usually go with plus or prime because you get more unlimited amenities.

Domain privacy, which I highly recommend, comes with Prime. If you choose plus, you will have the option of adding it for approximately $ 1 later.

On the next screen, you will enter your new blog name. No one yet? You can proceed with ease without any help.

STEP 4: Pick a unique domain name

A domain is a web address. For example, technicalglance.com is my domain name.

If you do not have to weigh in advance, then use your name, or think some brief, attractive and shareable.

If you have previously registered a domain and would like to use it for this new site, then enter it on the right side. (Do not worry, this messy thing will not be recorded here, it only recognizes your Bluehost account.) If you do not already have one, enter your desired domain on the left.

For the purpose of this tutorial, I will use a new domain. If you are using an existing domain, then the process is almost identical. You can still follow it easily.

FAQ: If the domain name I want is not available?

No worries! Take advantage of the Bluehost option to choose a different later. Just click the "Free Domain Select Later" button in the popup that appears and it looks like this

Enter your account information

On the next page, enter your account information. Make sure you use a working email address because this is where your login information will be sent. (Save these emails!)

Choose an account plan based on how much you want to pay in advance. Bluehost Bill 1, 2, 3 or 5 years ago. They do not offer monthly payment options (hosts who often double or triple charge). As you can see, it works at a very reasonable monthly amount. Not bad for your blog or website, right? This is a great deal.

I leave add-ons except for domain privacy protection If necessary, others can be easily added later. (Domain privacy is available for new domains only. If you have selected Prime Package, then it is free.) This security keeps your personal information private. The only time to leave domain privacy is if you are using a business address and do not care that it is visible to anyone viewing your domain.

The total amount is the amount you will pay today. Depending on the plan you choose, you will not have to pay again for 12, 24, 36 or 60 months. Set it and forget it!

Enter your billing information

After this, fill in your billing information, confirm that you've read the print correctly and then click Submit.

Skip upgrades and special offers

Once submitted, you will be asked if you want to add an upgrade or special offer. I leave them by clicking on the "thank you" link.

Choose a password

After your purchase is complete, you will be asked to choose a password. Just click on the "Create Your Password" button to choose a secure password.

This password will allow you to log in and start.

STEP 5: Get started with Blogger/Wordpress, which you want

You can start working on your WordPress site immediately. "Congratulations!" To get started with WordPress Click the blue Login button in the window.

Skip-free templates

Bluehost gives you the option to immediately take a free theme. Unless you are not familiar with a list, I leave it by clicking "Skip this step" at the bottom of the screen. Why? Because many free topics are not kept up to date. Old themes can take advantage of hackers leaving the hole and are not worth the risk.

The theme that comes pre-installed will be enough for now. Once you set up and become more familiar with WordPress, you can switch to a different theme.

Start building your site

Your site will be at the first temporary domain. Do not be anxious.

For new domains, this is because your chosen domain takes 2-24 hours to fully register. Go ahead and start working on your site. When the real domain is created, the Bluehost will automatically switch it for you.

If you used the existing domain in step 4, you can contact Bluehost Support (new hosting customer) or see the Help section when you are ready to connect your existing domain to this new site.

You have two options on this screen, the blue "Start Building" button and the following link to go to your Bluehost account:

It's unlikely that you will need to access your Bluehost account at this point, so clicking on the "Start Building" button will take you to your new WordPress site: like so. 

The black column on the left indicates your WordPress dashboard, a place with which you will be very familiar. I recommend leaving the blue button (business and personal) in the middle of the screen and choosing "I do not need help". Why? I prefer to start with a clean slate.

After choosing your site type a new page will open, that's page will look like so. Click on launch your site and go to next step.

After launch, a page will open in which you will fill site title and description and click on next button.

After the next step, another page will open in which you will have the option to choose a theme, You can skip this option and go to the Wordpress dashboard. You are now authorized to customize and design your website.

FAQ: Help, I'm stuck! What should I do?

If you had to face something unexpected during setup, contact Bluehost tech support. Calling better than chatting. If you are in the United States, call 844-213-7846. They have access to your account (I have nothing) and should be able to unstick you.

STEP  6: Design and use your blog

Congratulations! You are the proud owner of the self-hosted WordPress site. Before diving, I recommend making these settings in your settings:

Change your Permalink I explain why and how in this post.

Turn your username from "Admin" to something else safer. Read about it and find instructions here.

Activate your domain. If you selected a new domain in step 4, find the appropriate welcome email and click on the button inside to complete the activation process.

Change your domain from HTTP to HTTPS. Then, for security. Read the FAQs below for instructions.

FAQ: How do I switch from HTTP to HTTPS on Bluehost?

Note: This option is only available when your domain registration is completely completed and you are no longer on your temporary domain (see Step 5 above). You will know that this is the case when you type your chosen domain in any browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox etc.) and your domain works, without forwarding the weird-looking domain to the address bar. If your site is still using a temporary domain, then give a reminder on your calendar to come back in 2-24 hours to finish this step.

HTTPPS vs HTTP

Recently, website URLs usually looked like this: http://technicalglance.com

However, there is a push to change sites to look like this: https://technicalglance.com

Do you see the difference? After Http, it's just an "S". That "s" indicates that a site is safe and less prone to eyes. that's important.

First of all, it gives visitors the peace of mind, especially if they enter any personal information on your sites, such as when they sign up for your email list, their email address or information related to something you have purchased.

Second, it keeps your site well on Google This is also important. Why? By the end of 2017, Google can alert people when a site is unsafe. A site owner wants a visitor to get a big fat warning that their site is unsafe!

Turn on your free Bluehost SSL certificate

If you have registered a new domain above, then turn on your free SSL certificate to enter an extra layer of security for your visitors. Do not be afraid of the fancy period. this is easy. (If you have a registered domain somewhere else, check with the company about obtaining SSL certificates.)

Log in to your Bluehost account by clicking on this link. Select the "Hosting Login" tab if it is not already. Use the login information you received via email immediately after signing up with Bluehost in the above step 4.

Once logged in, click "My Sites" in the left column. Then hover over the thumbnail image of your site. Click on the "Manage site" option that appears like so;

On the next screen, select the "Security" tab at the top. Turn on a free SSL certificate by toggle the switch on "On"

Bus! Give it a little time to catch it. For example, when you type your domain in Chrome, you'll see a secure icon:

With the above setting adjusted, your blog is ready to go!
